English Conversation Practice: 10 Real-Life Dialogues

Real-life dialogue practice should train complete tasks and unexpected replies. Read each exchange for meaning, perform both roles, hide one role, and then change details. The goal is flexible response, not a perfect recital.

1. Meeting a coworker

A: Hi, I don't think we've met. I'm Mia from design.

B: Nice to meet you. I'm Ren. I joined the sales team this week.

A: Welcome. How are you finding it so far?

B: Good, thanks. I'm still learning everyone's names.

2. Making plans

A: Are you free for coffee on Saturday?

B: Yes. Would the afternoon work?

A: How about three near the station?

B: Perfect. I'll message you when I arrive.

3. Asking for directions

A: Excuse me, is the museum within walking distance?

B: Yes. Go straight and turn left after the bank.

A: Is it on the same side as the park?

B: No, it's across the street.

4. Ordering lunch

A: Could I get the chicken sandwich without cheese?

B: Sure. Would you like fries or salad?

A: Salad, please. And water to drink.

B: Is tap water okay?

A: Yes, that's fine.

5. Shopping

A: Do you have this jacket in a smaller size?

B: Let me check in the back.

A: Thanks. Could I try this one on meanwhile?

B: Of course. The fitting rooms are over there.

6. Hotel check-in

A: I have a reservation under Tanaka.

B: Yes, for three nights. May I see your passport?

A: Certainly. Is breakfast included?

B: Yes, from seven to ten.

7. Workplace clarification

A: Could you send the revised file by Thursday?

B: Just to confirm, do you need the final design or the draft?

A: The final design, but the draft would be helpful today.

B: Got it. I'll send both.

8. At a pharmacy

A: How can I help you?

B: I've had a sore throat since yesterday.

A: Do you have a fever or take any other medicine?

B: No fever, and I don't take anything regularly.

9. Correcting a bill

A: Excuse me, I think we were charged for three drinks.

B: You only had two?

A: That's right.

B: I'm sorry. I'll correct the check now.

10. Reporting an emergency

A: Please help. My friend fell and hurt her leg.

B: Is she conscious?

A: Yes, but she can't stand.

B: I'll call an ambulance. Stay with her.
